Home Blitz + TV Ghost @ Lucky Cat, Brooklyn.

I forgot my camera, so thanks to Lea Cho for sending these to me. This was the best show I've seen in ages.

I got there in time to catch Lafeyette, Indiana 4 four piece, TV Ghost. By the second song I was thinking "Holy shit, this is my new favorite band".

Austin, TX. SXSW recap.

Austin, TX. SXSW recap.

First up, the insanely rad Pedestrian bridge show on Friday Night. I didn't get any pics of brutal knights or No Age, but here's the money shot.

Fucked Up

Saturday.

Northampton Wools (Nace, Moore and Morgan)

Little Claw

Jay Reatard

Mika Miko

Vivian Girls

Let's take a break from the sxsw recap for some good shows going down this weekend.

Princeton, NJ.
Japanther, Cause Co-Motion, Meneguar.

Every now then I have anxiety dreams where I'm playing a show and everyone in the band has forgotten the songs, my guitar is turning into glue, I forgot to wear a shirt and I look like an asshole. You get the picture. Well, last night's meneguar set was the closest I've ever felt to that while awake. A brand new bass cable stopped working during the first song, the snare broke on the second, water spilt on my guitar pedals. While I don't have any pictures from that trainwreck, check this out.

Woods Tour. Day 6. SXSW

Austin, TX.
woods

After getting 5 hours of sleep on a hardwood floor we slept walked over to Ms. Beas for Woods  1 pm set. Ouch! We had the rest of the day off(and since we turned down the badges that get you into all the showcases for free and took the cash) we spent the rest of the day hanging out at Ms. Beas. Todd P has been putting on all day, all ages, free to the public shows there for the past 3 years during sxsw. Most bands we wanted to see and/or hang out with play it at some point, so we just set up camp.

Castanets

Deertick

Ponytail

Ponytail is one of the best rock bands out there hands down. I haven't checked out their recorded stuff yet, but both shows I've caught have been intense.

Sunburned Hand w/Bill Nace.

This sunburned set killed! totally demented and it exploded into a brief kraut finale. Check out their new fire escape record. It feature a huge cast of old and new sunburned players, plus some vibracatherdral folks. Produced by Four Tet. It's damn good.

Siltbreeze showcase

eat skull

Mike Rep! w/Times New Viking

We needed a breather: so we found a stoop, a flask and pretended we weren't
at sxsw for a half hour.

Woods Tour. Day 5. SXSW.

Austin, TX. SXSW

meneguar at emos.

The Meneguar show was totally last minute and so much fun. Thanks to John and Todd for having us. As soon as we were done we ran over to the Mohawk to catch Tyvek.

Soiled Mattress and the Springs

Tyvek

We got to the Cake Shop showcase and saw a minute of Soiled mattress.
I'd caught Tyvek a few times in NYC/Brooklyn, but this set really did it for me. I totally fell in love with the summer burns 7 inch and it felt good to be at a show just as a straight up fan of the band.

Lemon Dando
Flying high from the Meneguar set and the Tyvek show(and 4 days of 10 hour drives)  we pulled the van up to Emos to unload and heard "It's a shame about ray" in the distance. Evan dando was playing the whole It's a Shame record at the outdoor stage across the street. I guess I blocked it out of my memory, but I quickly realized that this was a record I listened to repeatedly in high school. I apparently know all the words?! Anyway, totally  fun/random way to end the night.

Woods Tour. Day 4.

Memphis Morning....

Grabbed Chris Bell's I am the Cosmos and listened to it twice on the drive to ....
....Denton, TX

Denton, TX is the best place to play. When you're show gets busted by the cops, some tall saint walks up and says "you can play at my house". Problem solved. Thanks buddy.

Woods Tour. Day 3.

Memphis, TN.
W/ Blues Control, Sunburned Hand of the Man, Bill Nace
All my friends were there.

Dinner with the Wooden Wand crew...

Bill Nace
Bill's an old friend, but I've somehow never seen him solo(?!). One man, one guitar and a few dozen pieces of metal. Excellent. Picked up Bill's new tape, as well as a CD version of the Dan Higgs cassette that Bill put out last year. Haven't spun the CD yet, but I've listened to the cassette enough to wholeheartedly recommend it. It's my favorite Higgs solo release. Both on Bill's Open Mouth label.
